Running it
The Miller Electric Filtair SWX-2585 is a self-contained portable fume extraction unit engineered specifically for welding environments where airborne particulate and smoke must be captured directly at the source. Designed to work in tandem with a fume extraction gun or a flexible capture arm, this system pulls welding smoke away from the operator's breathing zone before it has a chance to disperse into the surrounding shop air. Built with the demands of fabrication shops, maintenance bays, and job sites in mind, the SWX-2585 combines a rugged steel housing with a powerful motor and blower assembly capable of maintaining strong, consistent airflow even as filters begin to load with particulate over extended use. At the core of the unit's performance is its multi-stage filtration system, which typically includes a spark arrestor pre-filter to catch larger debris and reduce fire risk, followed by a high-efficiency main filter cartridge that traps fine welding fume particulate before clean air is exhausted back into the workspace. This layered approach not only protects the health of welders by reducing exposure to hazardous fumes but also helps facilities stay compliant with OSHA and ACGIH airborne contaminant guidelines. The Filtair SWX-2585 is designed for straightforward filter access and replacement, minimizing downtime during maintenance, and its filter-clogging indicator alerts operators when service is needed so extraction efficiency never silently degrades during a shift. Mobility and durability are central to the SWX-2585's design, with a compact footprint mounted on caster wheels that allows the unit to be rolled directly to the welding station rather than requiring fixed ductwork or a permanent installation. This makes it a practical choice for shops that need flexible, point-of-use extraction across multiple work cells or changing production layouts. Compatible with Miller's range of fume extraction guns and accessories, the SWX-2585 integrates smoothly into existing welding setups without demanding a major overhaul of shop infrastructure. For welding operations focused on improving air quality, protecting worker health, and maintaining a cleaner, safer environment on the shop floor, the Filtair SWX-2585 delivers dependable, source-capture fume extraction built to withstand the rigors of daily industrial use.
The Miller Filtair SWX 2585 is a solid mid-to-large shop fume extraction solution, delivering reliable filtration and self-cleaning convenience that reduces maintenance interruptions. It's a strong pick for fabrication shops running frequent welding cycles, though the investment in replacement filters and its bulk should be factored into total cost of ownership.

We run this on our MIG stations and it keeps the air noticeably cleaner. The auto pulse-clean feature really cuts down on manual filter maintenance.
Performance is excellent and suction stays strong, but the replacement cartridges add up over time. Still, worth it for the air quality improvement.
Works great once positioned, but moving it around our shop floor with the casters can be a workout. Filtration quality is top notch though.
Helped us meet OSHA fume exposure requirements easily. The articulating arm reach could be a bit longer for our larger tables, but overall very happy.
