Running it
The 3M Speedglas G5-01 Welding Helmet represents a significant leap forward in welding protection technology, combining advanced auto-darkening filter capabilities with an intelligent connectivity platform designed for professional welders who demand precision and comfort. This helmet features a large viewing area that provides welders with exceptional visibility of the weld pool and surrounding workpiece, reducing the need for awkward head positioning and helping maintain proper welding technique throughout long shifts. The G5-01 utilizes 3M's proprietary sensor technology to detect arc ignition with remarkable speed, ensuring the filter transitions from light to dark states almost instantaneously to protect the welder's eyes from harmful UV and IR radiation as well as intense visible light produced during the welding process. What truly sets the Speedglas G5-01 apart is its modular design and smart capabilities, including compatibility with 3M's Adflo powered air respirator systems for welders working in environments with heavy fumes or particulates. The helmet's shell is constructed from durable, lightweight materials that balance impact resistance with all-day wearability, addressing the common complaint of neck and shoulder fatigue associated with lesser helmets. Adjustable shade ranges allow welders to fine-tune darkness levels for different processes such as MIG, TIG, and stick welding, while the sensitivity and delay controls can be customized to match specific working conditions, whether in bright ambient light or dimmer industrial settings. The headgear system distributes weight evenly and includes a ratcheting adjustment mechanism that allows for quick, secure fitting even when wearing additional PPE like hard hats or hearing protection. Built for demanding industrial applications, the 3M Speedglas G5-01 also supports connectivity features that allow supervisors or safety managers to monitor helmet performance and battery status, contributing to proactive maintenance and reduced downtime on the job site. The auto-darkening filter is solar-assisted with replaceable battery backup, ensuring consistent operation even during extended use without direct light exposure. Welders across industries such as shipbuilding, structural steel fabrication, and pipeline construction have adopted this helmet for its blend of durability, optical clarity, and ergonomic design. With its combination of cutting-edge filter technology, respiratory system integration, and rugged construction, the Speedglas G5-01 stands as a premium choice for professionals seeking reliable eye and face protection without compromising on comfort or productivity throughout demanding welding tasks.
The 3M Speedglas G5-01 is a high-performance welding helmet aimed at professionals who need superior visibility, comfort, and compatibility with respiratory protection systems. Its SideWindows technology and reliable auto-darkening filter make it a strong investment for daily heavy-duty welding work, though the cost may be prohibitive for occasional hobbyist users.

4 people who bought it
The side windows make a huge difference when working in tight spaces. I can see my surroundings without lifting the helmet constantly. Worth the investment for daily use.
Wore this for an 8-hour shift and my neck wasn't sore at all. The headband distributes weight well. Just wish the replacement lenses weren't so expensive.
I use this with the 3M PAPR system and the integration is seamless. Auto-darkening is fast and consistent, no flickering even at low amperage TIG welding.
Optical clarity is noticeably better than my previous helmet. Grinding mode switch took some getting used to but overall very happy with the purchase.
