Running it
The ESAB Cutmaster 60 is a purpose-built handheld plasma cutting system designed for fabricators, maintenance crews, and industrial shops that need reliable, high-speed metal cutting without the bulk of older-generation machines. Delivering up to 60 amps of output, this unit is engineered to cut mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum efficiently, with a rated cut capacity around five-eighths of an inch and the ability to sever up to an inch and a quarter for edge-starting applications. Built around ESAB's inverter-based power source technology, the Cutmaster 60 stays compact and lightweight compared to transformer-based plasma cutters of similar output, making it far easier to move between job sites, load into a service van, or position on a shop floor where space is limited. At the heart of the Cutmaster 60's performance is its compatibility with ESAB's SL60 or SL100 torches, which use advanced consumable designs to extend cutting life and maintain a stable, focused arc throughout the cut. Operators benefit from features like Smart Sense automatic gas control, which simplifies setup by automatically regulating air pressure and eliminating manual adjustments that could otherwise lead to inconsistent cut quality. The system also incorporates CleanCut technology, which fine-tunes cutting parameters to produce cleaner edges with minimal dross, reducing the need for secondary grinding or finishing work. This combination of automated gas management and refined arc control allows even less experienced operators to achieve professional-grade results while giving skilled welders a dependable tool for demanding production environments. Durability is a defining characteristic of the Cutmaster 60, as ESAB constructed the unit with a rugged metal chassis and internal components rated to withstand the vibration, dust, and thermal stress typical of industrial and field environments. The plasma cutter operates on standard single-phase input power, offering flexibility for shops without three-phase infrastructure, while its balance of amperage output and duty cycle supports both quick tack-and-cut tasks and longer production runs. Whether used for structural fabrication, automotive repair, pipefitting, or general maintenance work, the ESAB Cutmaster 60 delivers the precision, portability, and consistency that welding professionals expect from a dedicated plasma cutting solution, reinforcing ESAB's reputation for building equipment that performs reliably under real-world working conditions.
The ESAB Cutmaster 60 is a dependable, professional-grade plasma cutter that balances portability with serious cutting power. It's an excellent choice for fabricators and repair shops needing consistent, clean cuts on thicker mild steel, though the price and lack of an integrated compressor may deter hobbyists on a budget.

Been running this Cutmaster 60 daily for over a year now. Cuts through 1/2 inch plate cleanly and the consumable changes are quick, which keeps production moving.
Performance is excellent and the pilot arc handles rusty scrap without issue. My only gripe is that replacement tips and electrodes add up over time.
Took this to a job site with a generator and it handled the voltage fluctuations fine. Cut quality on 3/8 steel was smooth with minimal dross.
Cuts great and starts every time, but the torch lead is a bit rigid compared to my old unit. Still, I trust it more for heavier gauge work.
