Running it
The ESAB Renegade ES 200i is a compact, rugged stick welder built for professionals and serious DIYers who need dependable arc performance in a portable package. Weighing in at a fraction of the size of traditional transformer-based machines, this inverter-based unit delivers up to 200 amps of clean, stable output on both stick (SMAW) and DC TIG processes, making it versatile enough for maintenance work, pipe fitting, farm repairs, and fabrication jobs alike. Its lightweight chassis and integrated shoulder strap mean it can be carried directly to the job site, whether that's up a scaffold, into a trench, or across a remote field location where power access is limited. Under the hood, the Renegade ES 200i features ESAB's advanced inverter technology, which provides a forgiving arc that resists sticking and delivers smooth starts even with low-hydrogen and cellulosic electrodes. The adjustable arc force and hot start controls give welders fine command over penetration and bead appearance, allowing for consistent results across a range of metal thicknesses and joint configurations. Dual voltage input capability, typically switching between 120V and 240V, ensures the machine stays productive whether it's plugged into a household outlet or a heavier-duty generator or shop circuit, and the unit's high duty cycle keeps downtime to a minimum on longer welding runs. Built to survive the realities of fieldwork, the Renegade ES 200i is housed in a shock-resistant, impact-tough enclosure designed to shrug off drops, dust, and moisture exposure that would sideline lesser machines. ESAB backs the unit with a straightforward digital display for amperage settings, simple dial controls that don't require a manual to decipher, and cooling fan control that reduces noise and dust intake when full power isn't needed. For welders who want a no-nonsense, go-anywhere stick welder that combines portability with the kind of arc quality expected from ESAB's engineering heritage, the Renegade ES 200i stands out as a reliable workhorse suited to both shop and field environments.
The ESAB Renegade ES 200i is a compact, dual-voltage stick welder that delivers a stable, forgiving arc and genuine portability without sacrificing core performance. It's an excellent choice for hobbyists, farm/ranch repair work, and traveling welders who need reliable stick welding capability plus optional Lift TIG in a lightweight package. While it lacks some of the bells and whistles of larger industrial machines, its build quality, arc control features, and ease of use make it a strong value in the sub-200A class.

Bought this for repairs around the ranch and it's been fantastic. Runs great on my generator, switches voltage automatically, and the arc is smooth even with cheap rods. Highly recommend for anyone needing a portable stick machine.
Arc quality is excellent and the hot start really helps with vertical up welds. Only complaint is the display is tough to see outside on sunny days, but overall very happy with the purchase.
I travel between job sites and needed something light but capable. The ES 200i punches above its weight class. Anti-stick and arc force adjustments make a noticeable difference on dirty or rusty metal.
Good machine for weekend projects and small fabrication jobs. Wish it came with a TIG torch kit, but as a stick welder alone it performs very well and the digital display is a nice touch.
