Running it

The Lotos CT520D combo welder is a versatile multi-process machine designed for hobbyists, farmers, and professional fabricators who need TIG, stick, and plasma cutting capability in a single unit. This combo welder delivers up to 50 amps of plasma cutting power, capable of cleanly slicing through metal up to 1/2 inch thick, while its TIG welding function handles up to 200 amps for precise, high-quality welds on stainless steel, mild steel, and other metals. The stick welding mode rounds out the package, giving users the flexibility to tackle thicker materials or outdoor jobs where wind might otherwise disrupt a shielding gas setup. Housed in a compact, portable chassis, the CT520D is built for those who want to consolidate three essential welding processes into one machine without sacrificing performance or portability. Powered by advanced IGBT inverter technology, the Lotos CT520D ensures stable arc performance, reduced spatter, and energy-efficient operation compared to older transformer-based welders. The dual voltage input (110V/230V) allows users to plug into standard household outlets or heavier-duty industrial power sources, making it adaptable to garage workshops, job sites, or farm settings. Its high frequency start for TIG welding eliminates the need for scratch starts, protecting tungsten electrodes and producing cleaner welds from the very first arc. Meanwhile, the plasma cutting torch features a non-touch pilot arc, allowing users to cut through painted, rusted, or expanded metal without needing direct contact, which is especially useful for repair work and fabrication projects involving less-than-pristine material surfaces. Built with durability in mind, the CT520D includes a robust cooling fan system and thermal overload protection to prevent damage during extended use, making it suitable for both quick touch-up jobs and longer production runs. The unit ships with a variety of consumables and accessories, including a TIG torch, stick electrode holder, plasma cutting torch, and the necessary cables and connectors to get started right out of the box. This all-in-one design appeals to welders who value shop space and budget, as it eliminates the need to purchase three separate machines. Whether used for automotive bodywork, metal art, home repairs, or small-scale industrial fabrication, the Lotos CT520D combo welder offers a practical, multi-functional solution that balances affordability with genuine multi-process welding and cutting performance.

Verdict

The Lotos CT520D is a strong choice for hobbyists and small shop owners who need plasma cutting, TIG, and stick welding capabilities without buying three separate machines. It delivers clean cuts and stable arcs at a price point well below comparable multi-process machines from bigger brands, though some corners are cut on accessories and noise level.

Great value combo unit Mike Halloran · 2023-11-14

Been using this for my home shop for six months now. The plasma cutter slices through 3/8 inch steel like butter, and the TIG side handles thin aluminum work surprisingly well. For the price, you can't beat having three machines in one.

Solid machine with minor gripes Sarah Contreras · 2023-09-02

Works as advertised and the digital display is a nice touch for dialing in settings. My only complaint is the stock TIG torch feels a bit basic and I wish it came with a foot pedal standard. Still, great bang for buck.

Good for a small fab shop Dale Petrov · 2024-01-20

We use it daily for light fabrication and repair work. The plasma cutter consumables wear faster than I'd like, but they're cheap to replace. Overall reliable performer for the price point.

Decent but noisy Jenna Ruiz · 2023-07-11

Does what it says but the fan is louder than I expected, especially in an enclosed garage. Cuts and welds are clean though, and I've had zero issues with build quality after several months.

Perfect for DIY projects Tom Whitfield · 2024-02-05

As a hobbyist this is exactly what I needed. Switched between plasma cutting and TIG welding on the same project without any hassle. Customer service was responsive when I had a question about settings.
